Now, a shocker news. The Transparency International has released what it calls Bribe Payers Index and guess what…UAE ranks 5th. I am not sure what the survey included. But my initial reaction was Naaa… No surprise when I saw India!
With merely 3,000 participants, you can hardly point a finger at any country and conclude any results. But here they are. I hope if at all there is bribery in UAE, the authorities take note of this situation and root it out by creating transparent processes.
This is how the countries are arranged: Scores range from 0-10 and country with the least amount of points is the loser. In this case, Russia is the Top bribe payer. Higher the score for a country, the lower the likelihood of companies from this country to engage in bribery when doing business abroad.
Here are the 28 countries that are ranked in the Bribe Payers Index: Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States.
