If your Emirates ID expires, how much time do you have until your phone line gets disconnected?

If your Emirates ID is about to expire, you might be concerned about how long you have before your phone line gets disconnected. The good news is that UAE’s telecommunications service providers offer a grace period to allow residents to update their records without facing service disconnection.

Here is everything you require to know.

Etisalat by e& Grace period – two months

Please note that the customer gets a grace period of two months after exceeding the expiry date of his or her Emirates ID. The user will receive an SMS reminder to update the registration details in the Etisalat by e& system throughout these two months.

If you fail to renew your Emirates ID within the grace period, your phone line will be disconnected, and you will need to visit an etisalat by e& store or use the app to renew your registration.

du Grace period – 90 days

Customers can upgrade their Emirates ID at any time between 30 days before the ID expires to 90 days after it expires.

So you have a total of 120 days to finish this procedure. You can update your Emirates ID through the du app using UAE Pass, self-service kiosks in du stores, or at point of sale.

After 60 days of ID expiry, outgoing services will be disconnected. After 90 days, both outgoing and incoming services will be disconnected.

If you update your Emirates ID after 60 days, and only your phone’s outgoing services are disconnected, you can renew it through the du app, self-service kiosks, or at a du store.

If you have passed the 90-day grace period and your line is fully disconnected, you will need to visit a du shop to submit your new Emirates ID and potentially retain your previous number as a new SIM.

Both etisalat by e& and du follow the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) regulations, and customers will be informed about each step and action taken via SMS and email. If you register your new Emirates ID for du while your line is disconnected, it will be reconnected within minutes.
