The World Bank has released its annual report on Ease of doing business in 2012. (Click here for Report) While the top 5 places have been retained by the same countries as in the year 2011, Norway toppled UK from 6th position to garner the position. Singapore retained its top position.
UAE has also seen the ranking get better by 2 places to be placed at 33 out of the 183 countries.
The most surprising fact is that Saudi Arabia which placed at position 12. Well, all this while I used to think that Saudi Arabia is one of those countries which had primitive business set up process. I was wrong!
The criteria for arriving at this ranking are as follows:
- Ease of Doing Business
- Starting a business
- Dealing with construction permits.
- Registering Property
- Getting Credit.
- Protecting Investors.
- Paying Taxes.
- Trading across borders.
- Enforcing contracts.
- Resolving Insolvency.
