How do you Update Your Name after Marriage on Visa, Emirates ID, and Other Documents Issued in UAE?

Many of you may be looking for updating your maiden name in your important documents issued in UAE after your marriage. So before you proceed with updating your name in the documents issued in UAE such as Residence visa, Emirates ID, Driver’s licence, Title Deed you must have your updated passport with your new name. Female expatriates can apply for a new passport with a surname change in their home country or in the consulate of that country in the UAE. The cost of the passport application will vary depending on your consulate or embassy. It is important that all the documents issued in the UAE (Residence Visa, Emirates ID, Driver’s license, Title deed) should match that amended data of the individual. Once you have your passport you can proceed with the below procedures to update your other documents:

Here are the steps:

Step 1: Marriage certificate attestation:

Legalize your marriage certificate by the Foreign Office in the country of marriage and attest it at the UAE Embassy in that country and Officially translate it into Arabic and the same has to be attested by the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation(MOSAIC).

The attestation of the marriage certificate with MOFAIC costs approximately AED 150.


Step 2: Prepare a statutory declaration:

You can get this done through your country’s consulate of the embassy, or through a law firm by providing supporting documents which include passport copies with the old and new names.

The approximate cost of AED 600 for a statutory declaration, however, may vary depending on whether you choose a regular or premium service.


Step 3: Update your Residence Visa:

To update your residence visa in Dubai you must apply to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and for other emirates, you can apply to the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) by filling out a modification of the name and pay the mandatory fees. For this, you need to provide your passport copies, once it is approved your passport will be stamped with a new visa. The approximate cost for the new visa application fee would be AED 300.


Step 4: Update your Emirates ID:

To update your Emirates ID, you need to go to the ICA service center and submit the application for modifying your personal details on your Emirates ID by uploading your new visa page along with your passport copy. Once approved you will receive your Emirate ID.

The approximate new emirates ID would be AED 450.


Step 5: Update your Driver’s licence:

You can request to amend the details on your driver’s license at the traffic department of the emirates in which it was issued by providing your New Emirates ID. The approximate cost would be AED 350.


Step 6: Update your Title deed with the Dubai Land Department

You can update the title deed with the Dubai Land department b visiting the DLD main office or online Opens in a new tab.https://dubailand.gov.ae/en/services/service-directory/request-for-modification-of-title-deed-information/#/. The total fee would be approximate AED 300 in addition to the once percent of the value of the property.

The approximate cost would be AED 220.
